Government of Canada stands up for telecom consumers: TekSavvy

February 26, 2019. Chatham, Ontario.

New policy direction puts competition at the heart of CRTC policy

TekSavvy Solutions Inc. (“TekSavvy”) today applauded the Government of Canada for ordering the CRTC to promote competition, affordability and consumers’ interests while regulating Canada’s telecommunications industry. The order directs the CRTC to place competition and consumer interests at the forefront of crucial regulatory proceedings.

“Today Minister Bains stood up for Canadian consumers and directed the CRTC to encourage all forms of competition in Canada’s telecom sector. The CRTC must put competition and consumers’ interests at the heart of its decision-making, pronto!” said Marc Gaudrault, TekSavvy’s CEO.

“The government’s proposed order today signals to the CRTC that competition is crucial for consumers, as TekSavvy customers can attest,” says Andy Kaplan-Myrth, VP Regulatory & Carrier Affairs.

“The government understands that Canadians need consumer choice and competition. This direction will be a major win for telecom consumers, and it is heartening to see the Government of Canada reinforce the importance of competition and consumer interests” says Janet Lo, VP Privacy & Consumer Legal Affairs.
